DARREN DEMAREE

A Violent Sound in Almost Every Place #58

Absorbed into the field?  No.
Rising with it, silently reaching
to kill the moon with resolute

dedication, to be obsession
without proclamation, that is
real flight.  When the sun

broaches your fury with a cloud
or two, your instinct will be
to kick dirt at your sister enemy,

do it.  Be careful of the good black
all around you, and make sure
you curse without any prostration,

but be violent towards any clear
perception of the tide moving
away from your own home.

A Violent Sound in Almost Every Place #60

Ribs
& honey,
my curious
love

of aftermath
is fear
of my cage,
shrinking

to sweet
nothing,
my mind
a candy

in a sea
frothed
to determine
the words

I can no longer
say
with belief.
I believe

the force
of listen,
your world
is not mine

is revelatory,
damning,
a clue of no
more flood.
