Making My Peace

 

But isn't that just the way it is?

She turns to see the tide
has erased her footprints

a grey and white Sanderling
has eaten her last bread crumb

and the only fine trace she
had even been there at all

has been absorbed by an
oyster as the needed irritant

to make his pearl.
